Legal
Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, sample demo-content notices, and third-party notices for Splattic (Public Beta 1.4.0 · 2026), a browser-based editor for glTF/GLB/FBX meshes (including multiple animation clips) and Gaussian splat assets, including real-time physics (dynamic and collider objects), particle effects, Web AR export with optional finger/touch gesture Actions, and author-configured LINK BUTTON URLs. Operated by TACTIC / Tactic Studio.
1. Terms of Use
By accessing or using Splattic (the website, browser editor, landing pages, exported HTML/AR packages you create with the tool, and related docs), you agree to these Terms.
1.1 What Splattic is
Splattic is experimental public-beta software for artists and technical artists to stage meshes (glTF, GLB, and FBX with multiple animation clips) and Gaussian splats in the browser, prepare client presentations, and export Web AR packages (including SLAM, image-target tracking, and optional finger/touch gesture Actions that drive animation, physics, and particle effects). Physics simulation and particle effects are approximate visual effects for presentation, not engineering or safety simulation. It is not a supported commercial product and is not a substitute for full DCC tools such as Maya or Blender.
1.2 Client-side processing
The editor is designed to run in your browser. TACTIC does not operate an upload/save backend for your 3D models, splat files, or project scenes. Files you open are processed locally in your session (and may be held temporarily in browser storage on your device).
- Project files are not uploaded to Tactic servers.
- There is no cloud backup, sync, or version history from us.
- If you clear site data, use private browsing, lose the device, or the browser drops local storage, we cannot restore your project.
- Keep your own copies of anything important (source files, Scene zip, HTML export, AR zip).
1.3 Acceptable use
- Do not use Splattic for unlawful activity, harassment, malware, or to violate others’ rights.
- Do not import or publish assets you do not have the right to use (including client IP, copyrighted characters, trademarks, or confidential work without permission).
- Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape aggressively, or reverse-engineer third-party binaries beyond what their licenses allow.
- AR experiences must be used safely: watch your surroundings; do not use while driving or in dangerous places. Gesture interactions (swipe, throw, push) are on-screen only—do not swing or throw your device.
- Particle effects can flash or flicker. If you publish experiences with rapid flashing (e.g. sparkles, bursts, rainbow colors), consider a warning for viewers with photosensitivity.
1.4 Your content
You retain ownership of the models, splats, images (including particle card textures), audio, and other materials you bring into the editor. You grant TACTIC only the limited technical permission needed to run the static site and display the public marketing pages—not a license to your private project files (which do not leave your browser to our servers).
If you publish an exported HTML or AR zip on your own host, you are the publisher of that hosted experience. Keep the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt (or equivalent notices) that ship with the export, respect rights in any assets you included, and review third-party terms that apply to components in the package (including 8th Wall / Niantic Spatial for Web AR). LINK BUTTON URLs, titles, and icons you author are your responsibility—Splattic does not review or endorse those destinations. Splattic lists bundled components in Open-source & third-party below to make compliance easier.
1.5 Third-party services and runtimes
Features may load or depend on third-party software and networks, including but not limited to:
- 8th Wall / Niantic Spatial XR Engine and XRExtras (loaded from a public CDN when AR features run)
- jsDelivr (CDN delivery of those scripts)
- Abacus (unique-visitor counter on the landing page only)
- Open-source libraries listed in Open-source & third-party
Their terms and licenses also apply. If you disagree with those terms, do not use the affected features.
1.6 Experimental software / disclaimer
Splattic is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Features may be incomplete, change, or break. To the maximum extent permitted by law, TACTIC and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, lost-data, or lost-profit damages arising from use of the service. Our total liability for claims relating to the public beta is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid TACTIC for Splattic in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (USD 100), except where applicable law does not allow that limit.
1.7 Public beta changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the site or these Terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
1.8 Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country say otherwise. You and TACTIC agree that courts located in San Francisco County, California (and, where federal jurisdiction applies, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California) are an appropriate place to resolve disputes arising out of these Terms or the service, unless applicable law requires another forum.
1.9 Sample files and third-party demo content
Empty-start / sample scenes shipped with Splattic (for example under sample_models/) may include third-party animations and audio so you can try the editor and Web AR flows. Those files are provided for demo and learning inside Splattic only, not as a stock-asset grant for shipping your own products.
- Sample audio and animations are for trying the editor (preview, gestures, AR flows). They are not free for any use.
- Do not copy, redistribute, resell, or ship sample audio/animations in your own games, ads, apps, stock packs, or client deliverables unless you separately hold rights from the rightsholder (or a license that clearly allows that use).
- Do not claim ownership of Mixamo/Adobe content, Pixabay content, or other third-party sample assets.
- TACTIC / Splattic does not grant a sublicense to third-party sample assets. Opening a sample does not transfer Mixamo, Adobe, Pixabay, music-publisher, or label rights to you.
- For production shipping, replace sample media with assets you cleared, or download your own copies under the provider’s current terms.
- Mixamo / Adobe. Some sample characters/animations appear to originate from Mixamo (Adobe). See the current Adobe Terms of Use, Mixamo Additional Terms, and Mixamo licensing FAQ. Do not re-export sample Mixamo clips as a standalone animation pack.
- Sample audio. Licensed per file. See Sample content §4.2 for credits, source links, and ship/risk status. Pixabay Content License media still prohibit standalone stock resale of the file alone.
- Privacy Policy is separate. Camera / AR data practices are under Privacy. Sample asset rights belong here and under Sample content.
Draft for operator review — not legal advice. Confirm with counsel. High-risk items (e.g. commercial TV/film themes) are marked for removal/replacement rather than soft-cleared.
2. Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data is involved when you use Splattic’s public static site and browser editor.
2.1 Summary
- No Tactic account is required for the public beta editor.
- No upload to Tactic servers for models/splats/projects, and no server-side recovery if browser or device data is lost.
- Some preferences and temporary file handles may stay on your device via
localStorage, sessionStorage, orIndexedDB. - The landing page records an approximate unique-visitor count via a third-party counter (Abacus).
- Web AR needs camera (and often motion) permission and loads 8th Wall scripts from a CDN.
2.2 Data we do not collect on our servers
TACTIC does not run an application backend that receives your GLB/glTF/FBX/splat uploads, scene graphs, or exported packages for storage. Hosting is static (e.g. GitLab Pages). Server access logs operated by the host (GitLab) may still include standard request metadata (IP, user agent, URL, time) under GitLab’s own policies.
2.3 Data on your device
The editor may store, only in your browser:
- UI preferences (theme, panel layout, HUD toggles, and similar)
- Short-lived or pending local file references to support reload flows
- Last-used export splat format choice for the current browser session (when applicable)
- Last Optimize movies for web (H.264 MP4) checkbox state for AR export in the current browser session (when applicable)
- Empty-start Guided tour preference when you check Don’t show again on step 1
When you save or export, the editor may show a Save file dialog in the page, then invoke the browser’s native Save as picker (where supported) or download the file. Those writes go to a location you choose on your device or to the browser’s default download folder—not to Tactic servers.
You can clear these by clearing site data for this origin in your browser settings. Clearing site data, using private browsing, switching browsers/devices, or OS/browser resets can remove that local state. Tactic cannot recover it. Save out Scene zip / HTML / AR exports if you need a durable copy.
2.4 Optional AR movie conversion (ffmpeg.wasm)
When you export an AR zip and choose Optimize movies for web (H.264 MP4), the editor downloads ffmpeg.wasm components from the same Splattic origin (or your self-hosted build) and converts Movie videos locally in your browser. Source and output bytes stay on your device unless you save or upload the zip yourself. TACTIC does not receive those videos. Conversion can be CPU- and memory-intensive; very long clips may fail and the exporter may fall back to packing the original file.
2.5 Landing-page visitor counter
The marketing landing page uses Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev) to maintain a shared unique-visitor count. A flag in localStorage limits repeat increments from the same browser. This is aggregate traffic measurement, not an account profile. See the Abacus operator’s practices for that service.
2.6 Camera and AR
When you run SLAM or image-target AR (in preview or in an exported AR page), the browser will ask for camera access. Camera frames are used for tracking and compositing the AR experience via the 8th Wall XR Engine. Finger/touch gesture Actions that play animation clips, trigger physics (drop, throw, push, and hit reactions), or fire particle effects in AR Experience use the same preview/export path and run locally on the device; they do not send your models or touch input to Tactic servers. Optional LINK BUTTON controls open URLs you configure (typically in a new browser tab); Splattic does not operate those third-party sites. Do not grant camera access if you do not want that processing. Exported AR packages you host yourself will make the same permission request to your visitors; you are responsible for disclosing that on your own sites if required.
2.7 CDN and network requests
Loading AR may fetch scripts such as:
@8thwall/engine-binary(XR Engine binary)@8thwall/xrextras
from jsDelivr or similar CDNs. Those providers may process standard technical request data. Opening remote sample URLs or textures you choose will contact those hosts.
2.8 Cookies
Splattic does not set advertising cookies. Browser storage described above may be used for preferences and the landing visitor flag. Third-party scripts (CDN, Abacus) may set their own technical data according to their policies.
2.9 Children
The public beta is aimed at professionals and adult students. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country). Do not use the service if you are under that age.
2.10 Contact enquiries
If you email us at contact@tactic.studio (via the contact page mailto link or your own mail client), we process the name, email address, and message you send so we can respond. We do not run a contact form on GitLab Pages. Details are in the Contact email privacy policy on the contact page.
2.11 Privacy questions
For privacy questions, email contact@tactic.studio or use the contact form.
3. Open-source & third-party notices
Splattic bundles or loads the following open-source and third-party components. MIT-licensed software is used under the MIT License (copyright retained by the respective authors; provided “AS IS” without warranty). HTML and AR zip exports include a THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt file summarizing this list—keep that file with redistributed builds. The table below is the product-level reference.

3.2 Web AR (8th Wall)
AR preview and exported AR pages load:
@8thwall/engine-binary— 8th Wall XR Engine (distributed binary; free for commercial use as part of a broader application/experience under Niantic Spatial’s engine terms / FAQ). Loaded from jsDelivr CDN in this project.@8thwall/xrextras— UI/helpers (open-source; MIT per 8th Wall’s open-source materials).@8thwall/image-target-cli— used in tooling for image targets (MIT).
Upstream project: github.com/8thwall/8thwall · Site: 8thwall.com. Before commercial campaigns, skim the current Niantic Spatial / 8th Wall engine terms (linked from THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt in AR exports). Splattic does not replace that review; it packages the notices to reduce busywork. Copyright © Niantic Spatial, Inc. where applicable.
3.3 Build / site tooling (not shipped as your scene content)
| Component | License | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Vite | MIT | github.com/vitejs/vite |
| esbuild | MIT | github.com/evanw/esbuild |
| Playwright, Sharp, sirv (dev scripts) | Apache-2.0 / MIT as upstream | respective npm packages |
3.4 Other third parties
- jsDelivr — CDN used to fetch 8th Wall packages at AR runtime.
- Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev) — landing unique-visitor counter only.
- GitLab Pages — static hosting for the published site.
3.5 MIT License (reference text)
For components listed as MIT above, the following permission notice applies (with each project’s own copyright line):
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the “Software”), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, subject to including the copyright and permission notices in all copies or substantial portions. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
Full license files ship with the upstream projects linked above.
4. Sample content (demo scenes)
Splattic may load demo Scene zips and splat files from sample_models/ (empty-start samples). They exist so you can explore the UI, timeline, gestures, and AR preview. They are not a clearance package for production shipping. User-facing summary also appears in Terms §1.9. Repo inventory: sample_models/README.md.
- Use samples to try the editor only. Replace third-party demo assets before you publish a client, store, or ad build unless you have independent rights.
- Do not copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit sample audio/animations in ways that create legal issues (stock packs, claiming ownership, shipping uncleared media, etc.).
- Mixamo-derived animation follows Adobe/Mixamo terms—not a Splattic sublicense.
- TACTIC does not warrant clearance of every sample file. Items marked No / remove must not be treated as cleared.

5. Maya scripts
Splattic also publishes free Python script tools for Autodesk Maya (not Maya plug-ins) on the Maya scripts page. You download .py files and run them locally in Maya. TACTIC does not host your Maya scenes or process them on our servers.
5.1 Scripts offered
- Script Manager (
ScriptManager.py) — browse and run MEL/Python from folders you choose - glTF / GLB exporter (
maya_gltf_exporter.py) — mesh, materials, skinning, blend shapes, textures, and animation export - Renamer (
renamer.py) — rename / prefix / suffix / search-replace utilities - Skin Weight Blind Data (
skin_weight_blind_data.py) — store and restore skin weights as per-vertex blind data
5.2 License and use
Unless a script file states otherwise, these Maya utilities are provided by TACTIC for use with Splattic workflows and general Maya production, on an “AS IS” basis, without warranty or formal support. They are documented as tested with Autodesk Maya 2027; other versions may work or break. You are responsible for backing up scenes before running third-party scripts.
You may use and modify the scripts for your own projects, including commercial client work, provided you keep attribution notices that appear in the script headers and do not misrepresent the scripts as official Autodesk software.
5.3 Trademarks
Autodesk and Maya are trademarks or registered trademarks of Autodesk, Inc. Splattic and these scripts are independent tools and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Autodesk.
6. Contact
For copyright complaints about materials you believe appear on this static marketing site, email contact@tactic.studio and include the URL, a description of the work, and your contact information.
